About

St. Martin De Porres Mbungoni is a Catholic Parish under the Archdiocese of Mombasa. It is located in Mbungoni off the Mombasa - Malindi highway.

In the year 1987, the Church was established as an out-station of Kongowea Parish, by Fr. Martin Kivuva. NowArchbishop  of Mombasa Archdiocese. At first, there were about five families worshiping under a mango tree, near the new Church. In 1988, a small grass thatched church was elected. It was at this time, that the church started attracting people from the local community who initially were not Christians.

The Christians then formed one Christian Community that was made up of about ten members and prayed together three times a week. The Christian Community was Christianized St. Kizito, which was also the name of the outstation.

In 1989, His Grace Archbishop Rev. John Njenga of Mombasa Archdiocese, laid the foundation stone of the new Church building. The Church construction was completed and shortly after it was elevated to a Parish by His Grace Archbishop Rev Boniface Lele.  Since then the Parish has grown tremendously with more than 20 Small Christian Communities.

There are  faith groups all of them meeting at least once in a week for faith sharing and the celebration of the Holy Eucharist.

The Holy Eucharist is celebrated daily. Due to the huge number of Christians who turn out for Sunday Mass, there are three different Masses celebrate and the current Church is filled to capacity on each Mass
